Summer is in full force, but fall will be here shortly. Hot days soon transition into cool, chilly nights. Make sure you’re prepared for your day out with one of the best accessories you can pack… A scarf!
The scarf is truly a unique accessory. Just think about! It’s a long, draping piece of cloth that can make or break your entire ensemble. Of course, scarves can be useful as well, especially in cooler temps.
So, the next time you’re paying attention to your attire options, throw a little more focus on your scarf game. It can really push up your style quotient. Here are a few tips to help you choose the perfect scarf.
Size and Shape
When it comes to scarf sizes, you generally have two options – Wide and Thin. In most cases, going for the wide one is a smarter choice. You’ll typically have enough coverage around the neck area without having to tighten up your posture, or throw on a jacket. Plus, leaving the remaining parts hanging down to your waist can add a certain touch to your overall look.
When tying a wide scarf, you can choose to let the ends hang over your chest or at your back. Or, you could tie the loose ends back around your neck.
Scarf Fabrics
The next important thing to look at in a scarf is the fabric. Scarves are generally worn during late fall or winter, because they help people stay warm. So, when choosing a scarf based on fabric, go for wool, silk, linen, or cashmere.
Try and avoid synthetics, unless you find high quality polyester ones.
While synthetics tend to be cheaper, consider investing a few extra bucks into a quality scarf. A scarf can be more than just a stylish piece of cloth, it’s a practical investment.
Color
The next thing to look at is color. While color can be subjective, gray, brown, white and beige are always great choices. They are minimalistic and look very elegant. Plus, they go with any ensemble.
On the other hand, there are those moments where you could go for something a bit brighter. Bold colors do tend to stand out during the winters and they could really brighten up things.
To make things easier, follow these two simple rules:
• Wear a bright scarf, if your coat is a neutral color. The exact opposite also applies.
• Never wear a scarf that is the same color as your outfit.
